Facebook Ads Scare Me (3 Things to do About it)

Running Facebook ads has been a big part of many gyms marketing plans for the past several years. 

It’s been very good to many of you.

That said, it’s not what it used to be.

It’s more expensive now than it was. With the Facebook landscape changing it’s getting harder and harder. Harder to get quality leads to your door.

The key phrase is to your door.

Facebook still generates leads and that may give you the feeling that its working.

But, my advice is to dig a little deeper and look at the real numbers.

How many leads from Facebook actually came in?

How many of them signed up?

How long did they stay?

Take a real hard look.

It will most likely be a worthwhile investment but it’s not what you think.

This is why you need to have multiple ways to generate leads.

The biggest mistake you can make in marketing is relying on one lead source. Especially if it’s Facebook!

I know for 100% certainty that the people that come to us via referral from one of our members show up more. They buy more and stay longer.

I am not telling you to stop running Facebook Ads. I do think it’s time to start investing into the things that bring you the highest quality people.

How are you deliberately generating referrals right now?

Most gyms get them by accident.

The best gyms have a plan to generate referrals on a consistent basis.

It may be a little more work than dumping $20 bucks a day on an ad but I assure you it’s worth it.

So here is where you need to start:

  1. You must be worthy of referrals. You must do a good enough job providing an experience that’s makes people want to refer their friends to you. That is the foundation. No referral program in the world can help you if you are mediocre.

  2. You have to create tangible specific things to do that generate referrals. An example here could be giving each new member a card for a free trial to give to a friend. Another could be a monthly newsletter. Another could be an annual contest. You must have specific things that happen to be able to generate referrals.

  3. You need to thank people. If you don’t invest into thanking people either with cards or gifts, they will not continue to refer. The business that does a great job rewarding people for referring will continue to get them.
