There’s a Free Gift in the P.S. at the end of this email…
I was on a call last weekend with Billionaire, Kevin O’Leary.
If you don’t know him, he’s the “mean” guy on the show Shark Tank.
Before I get into his breakthrough advice about websites tomorrow…
I want to address what he said when asked how he felt about being known as the “mean” shark.
He replied with he’s not mean, he’s just brutally honest and tells the truth…because someone has to do it…
He said the reason why he’s so honest is that he does no one any good by making them feel warm and fuzzy.
It reminds me of a great quote from Dan Sullivan:
“All progress starts with the truth”.
Progress as a gym owner comes from building a highly productive team.
I think one of the main things that holds gym owners back is being able to hold team members accountable to the standards they set for their business.
Failure to hold people accountable means you simply are too scared to tell the truth.
As a nice guy, I have fallen into that trap over the years and it never helps me move forward.
It’s only when I am honest with myself and then honest with others that we make progress.
Here’s a quick formula for Success
1. Decide where you want to go (this alone is a very important skill, if you don’t know where you’re going…no one can help you).
2. Build the team (you got to learn how to recruit, hire and onboard new team members).
3. Hold that team accountable to your goals and standards by being a truth teller (not easy but necessary).
4. Eventually, get the heck out of the way and let them do their job (The hardest part of all, those with big egos will struggle here).
He ended with this…
“Telling the truth may not make you liked, but it will make you respected.”
Going through life trying to please everyone is a losing strategy.

P.S. Many gym owners tell me the most painful part of growing their business is finding great people to go on the journey with them. I have 16 hard copies of my hiring book left before the revised version is sent to the printer.
Send an email to megan@vincegabriele.com with “Vince’s hiring book” and I will ship you a copy.
