Incredibly, He Threw This in the Garbage

A few months ago, I went and had my oil changed.  

When I picked up my truck the guy that helped me told me I needed new tires so I told him to send me an estimate.   

He called me a day later and left me a voicemail telling me he had an estimate (not an efficient process). 

I never called back.   

Not because I didn’t want or need new tires, it fell off my radar.   

A couple months later I dropped Vanessa’s car off to get a routine oil change for her car.   

I saw the same guy (he had no clue who I was) and asked him if he still had the estimate.

Agitated and confused he asked my name, phone number and address (I’ve been going to this place for 20 years). 

What I am about to report really did happen. 

He said gruffly, “NO, I don’t have it anymore.”  

“You people ask me for estimates and then never get back to me. So, after a month I throw them in the garbage!”

What!?  

What!?  

So here is a customer, standing before you that desperately needs new tires.

You call him ONCE, then throw the estimate in the garbage?!  

Can you imagine how much money this place loses?  

This guy does not understand his customers.   

He never puts himself in my shoes and for that he lost my business, he didn’t even lose it, he threw it in the garbage.   

There are leads that reached out to you and have not gotten back to you.   

They still need to work out. 

They still want to work out. 

They just haven’t yet.  

This is the mindset you need to have with every lead. 

They didn’t say no, they just said, not yet.   

They want you to continue to call them.  

You’re not bothering them. 

You’re saving them.

If this guy cared about me as a customer, he would have the mindset that thought this:  

“I have a customer driving around with worn out tires. I need to get to him to make sure when he drives his kids to school, they are safe.” 

Can you imagine his business if he thought this way?  

What you do truly matters, you save lives. 

It’s your duty to continue to follow-up with them until they come in.
