January Mistakes Gym Owners Make

Today I did a training for my private Mastermind members on how to promote a January Challenge.

We got into the weeds about which marketing channels to use to promote them like email, Facebook ads and joint ventures. 

But I think the most important point made today in promoting a challenge this time of year was understanding what their market wants right now.

Most of us work with people that are super busy and have a ton going on in their lives. 

They are probably not thinking about what goals they want to accomplish in 2022 right now (like you are).

They are thinking about what they need to buy for the holidays, what parties they’ll be attending, where they are traveling and what they will do with their kids around the house. 

So, they are not thinking about joining a gym.

The chances of them joining a gym, this week or next, are small.

But come Monday January 3rd….they will be thinking about how crappy they feel and how they need to do something different this year.

Listen. Here’s where it gets important …

As a gym owner that’s trying to send the message to your prospects about some type of January get back in shape program…

…you need to know what’s going on in their mind on January 3, how they feel right now and what they really want. 

Now, some of you might believe that what they need is habit change.

And you would be right.

But that is NOT what’s going on in their mind.

Here’s what is…

I need to lose 20 pounds this year. 

Like it or not, this is what most are saying, thinking and most important…wanting.

It’s important not to market with what you think is best for them…but rather what will bring them into the door…because that’s the only way you can help them.

Get them in the door while losing the 20 pounds.

Keep them a client for life by teaching them habits.

There’s a difference.
