The pandemic has left the large group facilities in an extreme disadvantage.
Can you imagine running intervals on a treadmill…elbow to elbow with the person next to you with sweat flying all over the place.
The thought makes me cringe right now and this will not happen anytime soon.
Large group facilities must adapt.
I’ve been preaching a 3-step leadership mindset since the day this thing started.
- Jocko-Like Discipline
- Disney Like Creativity
- Productive Paranoia
Without some creativity, the large group facilities will suffer.
I already see some truly innovative things from large group gym owners around the US with how they plan to run their sessions…this was very promising to see.
But the race to a higher priced more premium program…small group personal training and 1-1 (a program that experts have bashed for years) is ON.
I recently recorded a podcast with industry legend, Rick Mayo, who just recently launched a franchise model.
The model is to train 6 people at a time and is as close to perfect as it gets to being in line with the rules for social distancing.
The problem for many gym owners shifting from large to small group will be asking for more money (that’s another article entirely).
The small group model is something, I, myself have used since 2007 and we still practice it today.
We are as busy as busy gets right now…setting up what that program will look like.
We’re moving equipment.
Putting lines on the floor.
Taking precise measurements.
Taking stuff out of the gym.
Throwing stuff away.
Buying new things.
Talking to infectious disease experts.
All to make our gym as safe as possible for our members so they deem it safe enough to return.
