Should You Be Open on Sundays?

When McDonald’s first opened they only sold burgers. 

People never ate burgers until lunch…that left them making no money until they opened for lunch.

Enter the Egg McMuffin.  You know the rest of the story.

Today, McDonald’s earns millions of dollars in revenue before they start serving lunch.

This is called leveraging unused capacity.

You have all kinds of this in your business and you need to become a master at discovering it. 

I’ve yet to see a gym in our space that is at max capacity from Noon to 3 PM.

This means there are close to 15 hours in the week where your business is under performing. 

Why don’t people come during these times?

Many reasons. 

You’re closed.
You don’t have showers.
You need to give your coaches a break in the middle of the day, etc. 

But here is the real reason. 

They are busy. 
Moms are picking their kids up from school.
People are at work.
Lunch dates.
Getting prepared for the afternoon rush.

Instead of trying to put a square peg in a round hole, think about another day/times you’re probably not leveraging. 


Your peak times are the most valuable asset you have.

The 5 and 6 AM slots are packed.

At 5:30 and 6:30 PM the gym is bustling.

9 and 10 AM on Saturday feels so good you wish everyday was like that. 

Well, I have news for you.

There are a few hours of PEAK time on Sunday AM that are going unused and leaving serious money on the table. 

When we opened on Sundays, we were packed immediately.  It allowed several people to train with us more often and others to finally become a member.

Peak times are precious in our industry and Sunday is one that will get gobbled up quick.
