Why More Gym Owners Don’t Write Books

As I write this email, I am the author of 8 books with a 9th one in the works.

If you were to ask me when I started in the fitness industry if was ever going to write a book, I would have told you…not likely.

A few years into my business I started writing an email every Monday.

It was called Mindset Monday.

The email was all about personal development, success, and overcoming adversity.

I had many loyal readers, most of them were my current members.

About 3 years into writing this weekly email, I got the idea to take the emails and organize them into a book.

I sent about 150 emails to an editor who organized everything into chapters.

I wrote a bio, got some testimonials from people that read the email each week, designed a front cover and a back cover and…I was an author.

Now, did I sell a lot of copies?

Nope.

In fact, I didn’t even make the book for sale.

The book was credibility and authority.

Which would be much more valuable to me as a local business owner than trying to sell books.

This is the most effective result writing a book will give you as a local business owner.

It is a core differentiator.

How many of your competitors have written a book?

Think about when you visit a doctor, lawyer, or accountant…

Which are you more impressed with: their degree on the wall (that everyone has) or the copy of the book they wrote?

You probably don’t ask them…

Did you sit down and write this book cover to cover?

How many copies have you sold?

Too many gym owners don’t have a book because of perfectionism.

They are waiting for the perfect time to write a book.

They are waiting to get the level of success they think is necessary to write a book.

So, they never write it…even though they secretly desire it.

If you’ve been consistently producing content for your target audience, you probably have already written a book…you just don’t know it yet.

Well, here’s your Uncle Vinnie…giving you permission…

Permission to take all the old stuff buried in your files, dusting it off, and using it to give yourself a heap of authority in your community.
