Don’t you love getting a random call from the friend of one of your best members…ready to sign a 12-month contract before you even tell them what you do?
Welcome to Referral Marketing.
But the problem with most gym owners is this wonderful event happens by accident.
You do a great job and referrals come in…but there is no consistency, they just show up on your doorstep as a pleasant surprise.
The goal is not to get referrals, the goal is to build a system into your business that makes this happen on a consistent basis.
At my gym, it’s very rare to have a week where 10-20% of our leads come from referrals.
Here are the 3 ways you can get consistent referrals in your business:
1. Evergreen Referral Systems
These are things that are baked into your systems and processes that drive people to refer.
This could include something like the point of sale referral where you give a new member a free month to give to a friend.
These types of tactics are not events, they are consistent reliable tactics to use to orchestrate people to refer.
2. Event Based Referrals
These are specific events you run that have a start date and an end date.
They could include a bring a friend day, a charity event or even a referral contest that uses an external prize to drive referrals.
3. Joint Ventures
This is where a very large pot of money sits and waits for you.
My good friend, Joe Hashey, built a joint venture with a hospital that turn into 83 new members for his gym.
Joint ventures are relationships you build with organizations, local businesses, sports leagues, etc.
They are partnerships where you do something for them, they do something for you.
There are boat loads of ways to structure them and most have their own unique way of working.
My advice here…
Start slow and think about one way you could start this process to get more orchestrated referrals and either put it on your marketing calendar or bake it into your systems.
