Are Your Bad Dreams True?

The other day my 5-year-old daughter did not want to go to bed.  She said she had a bad dream and if she went to sleep, the bad dream would come back.

I asked how her if she was completely sure if that dream would come back.

She said, “Definitively, yes. If I go to sleep, the dream will come back”.

I held up my hand and asked her how sure she was that it was my hand.

She said, “I’m sure, Dad”.

I asked her, “Are you 100% sure?”

She said “Yes, 100%.”

I asked her again how sure she was that her dream was going to come back.

She got the point and after a few more examples, she went to bed.

I asked her if she had a bad dream when she woke up the next morning and she smiled. No bad dream.

When you have a sky falling thought about your business such as:

  • The economy will crash in 2019.
  • If I raise prices, every client will leave.
  • If I go from 1-1 to small group, no one will like it.
  • One of my trainers took a day off, they must be interviewing for another job.
  • When that new competitor opens, my clients will want to try them out.

The commonality of all this, what I call, Headtrash, is that none of these things are facts.

They are just negative thoughts that zap your mind and take you away from the things in front of you that you can control.

One of the greatest things you can start to adopt is a mindset of extreme optimism.

This does not mean be naïve, some form of paranoia is healthy.

It means that you spend less time thinking about things you are not 100% sure of and start to think optimistically about how you can take action and control your own destiny.

A way to help is to write out 5 things your grateful for each morning.
