Put Your Business And Life On Steroids…By Facing Discomfort

Yesterday, my son had a BJJ tournament

He had a bye to the finals and his training partner won his match putting them against each other

At our school, they don’t fight each other at tournaments if they both make it to the finals

So technically Joey did not have a fight.

For the next 4 hours, his coach was running around the tournament like a madman trying to find Joey at least one fight

It’s helpful when you know when you’re going to fight, where you’re going to fight, who you’re going to fight, and of course IF you’re going to fight.

For 4 hours all of this was up in the air and for a 7 year old kid, this must have been tough…it certainly was for me!

It was a roller coaster. They would find a kid for him to fight, then something would happen and that fight would go away.

This happened several times.

Finally, after 4 hours of this Joey got a fight….and despite all of this, he got the win.

I was more proud of him for going through all that uncertainty with a great attitude than the actual win.

Tony Robbins says, “The quality of your life is in direct proportion to the amount of uncertainty you can comfortably live with.”

In business, there’s a lot of this.

If we can’t handle it well, it’s going to be a tough, long road.

I did a presentation at the last mastermind on how to figure out what’s next for you as a gym owner.

One of the reasons why this is such a struggle for so many people is the uncertainty.

There’s uncertainty around if they’ll be able to handle another gym if they make the decision to open one.

There’s uncertainty around hiring a trainer to take over some hours because you don’t know if the clients will like training with them.

There’s uncertainty around investing in a business coaching program because you’re not sure if you’ll get a return.

The thing with uncertainty is it’s always going to be there…so we might as well start getting comfortable with it.

For me personally, this is something that I’ve had to work on.

It’s not easy.

But it seems that when I look at my own life, all the greatest moments have been riddled with uncertainty.

Over time, you start to realize this and even though it’s still scary, you go anyway because of the rich history at the root of discomfort and uncertainty.

So whatever you’re uncertain about…go anyway and do your best to get more comfortable with it…it’ll always be with you.
