I had a gym owner that was very interested in joining my Mastermind tell me something peculiar.
He said if they got the results they needed from a campaign they were in the middle of, they could join the Mastermind.
It seemed very short sighted at the time, but I patiently waited to see how they did.
They emailed me and said they didn’t get the results they needed so they were not going to join yet, but hopefully very soon.
This reminded me of a decision making tool I’ll be teaching at the next Mastermind meeting on November 12-13 he probably should have used.
It’s called, 10/10/10.
When faced with a decision, ask yourself how you’ll feel in 10 minutes, then 10 months, then 10 years.
In the case of the gym owner above, they decided no, so they were able to avoid any mild discomfort by NOT making a financial commitment.
This thinking does not allow them to understand that they are saying no to the very thing that would help them get what they want.
They stopped at how they would feel in 10 minutes…and this is the issue and why this exercise is so powerful.
If they took a longer term look, they would see that if they said no to the Mastermind, they’d probably be in the same situation that they are now…in 10 months.
As we know things don’t magically get better if you don’t change anything and you “keep on trucking”.
Finally, if they looked 10 years from now and they never got help with their business…which is highly likely as they are greasing the groove for saying no to getting the help they need….the picture could look pretty gray.
The point here is to not make decisions based just on short term emotion but rather to consider how you’ll feel in the longer run.
When you’re making decisions from an emotional level, you usually don’t make good decisions anyway.
The biggest lesson I took from Covid-19 was to stay calm under pressure…it’s made a major difference in every area of my life.
Learning skills and habits to control that emotion will be very helpful in your journey as a gym owner.
