The Only Question I Ask My Wife

When I walk into the Zingerman’s coffee shop in Ann Arbor Michigan, I get a feeling. 
 
That feeling is a good one.  
 
The coffee is really good but the eye contact, the smiles, the positivity and the genuine care to be sure I have a great experience makes the difference.  

It’s so good it makes me want to move to Michigan so I can come here every day 

Imagine that!  

Imagine if your business was so good people would want to move close to you just to do business with you.  

I don’t have this feeling at Starbucks.  

I don’t have this feeling many others places.   
 
I hope people have this feeling at my gym.  
 
We try to do this but we can do better, much better.  
 
What if your gym was a place people got addicted to from the energy they felt?  
 
They got addicted to being around friendly, nice people.  
 
They got addicted to smiles and people knowing their name.  
 
They got addicted to the feeling of being supercharged.  
 
Most say they do well here, but I always think we can be much better.  
 
Let me ask you this…  
 
Have you ever trained your team on how to maximize positive energy?  

Me neither.  

But I am starting on Monday.    

At Zingerman’s, this is part the job. If you don’t have it, it’s the same as being late all the time. It’s unacceptable.

How much more would your clients come?  

How much longer would they stay?  

How many more friends would they tell?  

The one question I ask my wife when she comes back from a workout at our gym is:   

How was the energy?  

Her answer is always on the good side but I want it to be better.  

The energy that people feel when they come to your gym is something that needs to be evaluated. It needs to be improved and made part of the job.
