Why Most Consultants Don’t Keep Their Gyms

Yesterday I celebrated with my team and our members the 10th year in business for my gym, Gabriele Fitness and Performance.

It was an emotional day but I always try to pull lessons out of great events like these. 

This is a thriving business that has generated over seven figures every year since 2014.  

It now runs at this high level with me working under 2 hours a week.  

I started thinking about what we’ve done to create such a successful 10-year business. It boiled down to 3 things.  

As you know, I am a business coach in addition to a 10-year gym owner.  

This is a very rare thing. I often wonder why so many fitness business consultants either sell their gym or simply just walk away to try to teach others how to run their own.   

The reason is they could not get their gym to run without them.  

The key to lasting for the long haul is to have control over your time and your mind.  

Most gym owners get burnt out. 

They lose their health. 

They lose their ability to think clearly. 

They just lose their edge. 

The 3 things I can point to that have helped me have this success are:  

  1. Ability to find great team members and keep them 

  1. Have a clear vision and a constant focus on growth 

  1. Developing great systems 

This is not an easy thing to do and is why you see very few fitness business consultants able to keep their gym running 

After all, isn’t that what you want?

More free time.  

The key to more time is getting your business to run well without you there.

The power in me keeping my gym is that I know exactly what you’re going through, I’m living it with you 

I’m not doing any of the actual work but it’s still around me.  It serves as a lab to test anything I want.  

A consultant that does not own a gym does not have that lab which gives me a huge advantage It’s why so many gym owners are coming my way.
